Partners (PP)
WHAT IS A PROGRAM PARTNER?
These are organizations with regional expertise that work with farmers to implement the Better Cotton Initiative Standard in the field, enabling the adoption of more sustainable farming practices.
They sign a Program Partnership agreement with BCI.
They are responsible for ensuring farmers' participation in the Better Cotton Standards System and creating a suitable environment in which they can produce and sell licensed Better Cotton.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PROGRAM PARTNERS
Programme Partners (PPs) perform the following tasks:
• Identifies suitable regions for Good Cotton production projects and includes farmers in the system.
• It brings together small and medium-sized farmers to form Producer Units (PUs); it establishes Learning Groups (LCs) within small-scale PUs.
• It employs UP Manager and Field Facilitator (SF) teams and supports implementations in the field.
• It improves the capacity of the staff and provides the necessary training, tools, and resources.
• Supports the establishment and sustainable operation of an Internal Management System.
• Informs teams about the Assurance Model requirements, reporting, and timeline, ensuring the process proceeds correctly.
• It systematizes knowledge transfer by establishing a tiered training system (PP → ÜB → farmer → worker).
• It supports continuous improvement at the farm level and contributes to planning processes.
• It measures the impact of training and field activities and analyzes the risks.
• Conducts preparatory checks for new UBs and regular site visits for existing UBs.
• Prepares and implements a 3-year project plan and annual progress plans.
• Collaborates with local business partners when necessary.
• It gathers and shares best practices and develops collaborations on critical issues.
• Develops and implements projects aimed at achieving sustainability goals.
• It ensures integration into the cotton supply chain by establishing cooperation with ginning plants.
• Manages communication between farmers and ginning plants, monitors the traceability process, and provides training on the chain of custody.
REQUIREMENTS FOR BECOMING A PROGRAM PARTNER
Basic requirements for becoming a Program Partner:
• There is an open application process; producer organizations, public institutions, companies, and NGOs can apply.
• All Program Partners are expected to be BCI members.
• The principles of transparency, mutual benefit, accountability, respect, inclusivity, and farmer-centric approach should be adopted.
• A strong internal management system must be in place (HR, finance, data management, reporting, etc.).
• Coordination and continuous communication should be maintained with BCI and its strategic partner IPUD.
