BETTER COTTON INITIATIVE (BCI)
BCI is the founder and global implementer of the Better Cotton Initiative Standard System, a holistic approach that addresses sustainable cotton production from environmental, social, and economic perspectives. BCI is a non-profit global organization and the world's largest sustainable cotton program.
BCI was established to improve global cotton production for the people who produce it, the environment in which it is grown, and the future of the industry, through the joint efforts of many different stakeholders, from farmers to fashion and textile brands. It is an international initiative that aims to reduce the negative environmental and social impacts of cotton production and make the future of the industry more secure and sustainable.
To achieve this goal, BCI's approach is to continuously improve agricultural practices by equipping farmers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools. In this way, farmers who prioritize minimizing the harmful effects of plant protection practices, managing and using water resources efficiently, maintaining soil health, conserving and enhancing biodiversity, prioritizing and protecting fiber quality, and improving the well-being of agricultural workers, will be producing according to an internationally recognized standard.
Our association signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement with the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) on June 19, 2014, and according to this agreement, IPUD is the sole implementer of the Better Cotton Standard System in Türkiye.
